How to Reveal the Map in Crimson Desert: All Bell Locations (Toll of Pywell)

Siow by Siow|

There are eight bells for you to find throughout Pywel. When all eight bells are rung and their Shai found, your entire map will be revealed!

What do the Bells do

As you travel in Pywell, you will notice a large bell in a bell tower in several locations. The first one is in the city of Hernand shortly after you start the game.

You can ring this and it will start a short cutscene where a Shai who was playing Hide and Seek appears. This will start the quest Toll of Pywell, a Faction Quest for the Pororin Forest Guardians of Hernand.

As a reward for finding them, they’ll reveal a large portion of your map. Once you find all eight Shai by ringing the bells, all of the fog will be removed from your map. Do note that resource spots are not revealed, but major locations and settlements are.

Toll of Pywell: Quest Structure and Rewards

The Toll of Pywell side quest starts once you ring any of the eight bells in Pywel and successfully summon a Shai.

  • Faction Quest title: Toll of Pywell
  • Recommended Abilities: Aerial Maneuver, Force Palm Level 3, Double Jump
  • Rewards: A fully revealed Map (does not include unknown resource locations)

Where are the Bells and when can you ring them

The bells are mostly found in capital cities of regions with the exception of Scholastone. They’re often found at the highest or tallest point of a city.

If a bell is in a territory occupied by hostile forces, you can ring the bell but the Shai will not appear.

For example, you can ring the bell in Pailune City before Chapter VII. But so long as the city is occupied by the Black Bears, the Shai will not appear. Story progression is required to ring some of the bells.

You can use the the Abyss Puzzle Nexuses to drop from there and land closer to a location of a Bell Tower on the ground to save yourself some extra travel.

Toll of Hernand

In the City of Hernand, you’ll find the bell tower on the northwest side. It’s west of the Nexus in the city, near the Notice Board, and should be the easiest to start out with.

Toll of Scholastone

In southwest Hernand, you’ll find Scholastone which houses a bell under a stone gazebo. It’s found northwest of Scholastone’s Abyss Nexus. You’ll be visiting this area during Chapter IV: The Price of Knowledge.

Toll of Calphade

Calphade’s bell is in a tower on the northern side of Calphade This city is a short trip northwest of Hernand City. It’ll be easier to access the bell before or after completing Chapter VI: Cracks in the Shield.

Toll of Pailune

Near the docks of Pailune City is a small red tower that houses the area’s bell. You can ring this bell and summon the Shai after completing Chapter VII: Homecoming

Toll of Demeniss

The bell in Demeniss is in a large tower east of the castle. The bell is hidden, so you’ll need to hold onto a metal flagpole to activate a switch and reveal the bell. This area will be safe to traverse after completing Chapter VIII: Blood Coronation.

Toll of Delesyia

Delesyia’s bell is within a clockwork tower in the northwest area of Delesyia City. You can access it by walking inside the building and going up the stairs and ladder. There’s also a Memory Fragment at the bell you can view.

Toll of Tommaso

You’ll find the city of Tommaso south of the “S” in “Tashkalp” in the Crimson Desert region’s map. The bell will be in a small tower on the northern part of the city.

Toll of Varnia

In the northernmost reaches of the Crimson Desert lies Varnia. The bell tower has a large, blue dome on top. Climb up to the top and push the lever in a clockwise manner. This will open up the dome as a lotus flower and reveal the bell.

Don’t go beyond the Unrevealed Borders

After completing this quest and revealing the map, you’ll see gray areas surrounding the map. These areas cannot be explored and any attempt to do so will fail.

You’ll get a prompt “Cannot enter this region”. Failing to return within 30 seconds means you’ll reload from your last checkpoint.
